Dave Hoover explores the psychology of software development
|
Looks like I'll be able to make it to XP Agile Universe in August. This will be the first time I've gone to the same conference in consecutive years. I'm interested to see how perspectives have changed and how Agile Software Devleopment has evolved.
I'm going to try to spend some time around Ward Cunningham. I haven't heard enough from him.
Back to Collective MindI left A Pattern Language on the train a few days ago and so I took the opportunity to re-read the Weick and Roberts article, along with an article based on their collective mind theory applied to software requirements development by Crowston and Kammerer. I'm more convinced than ever that collective mind theory helps explain the success of agile software development. I need to continue to develop my paper on the topic.
Yesterday my book showed up in the Metra lost-and-found, so I'm finishing it up. What an incredible book, one of my all-time favorites.
I started reading A Pattern Language this week. After reading a number of excellent books whose authors were influenced by Alexander's work, I am not disappointed.
Perhaps it is the idealist in me that finds the book so attractive. The book contains a vast number of elegant, simple, and powerful patterns, that when applied locally generate the high-level patterns described at the beginning of the book. There are many similarities to agile software development's emergent design and refactoring. Reading Alexander reminds me of the first time I read Tolkien: I am inspired to write an imitation.
I find myself sleeping less and reading even more than usual.
